Double Up Presents

 Acro Expansion III

Intermediate Acroyoga Retreat in Bali

19th – 22nd April 2024

What to Expect

Are you ready for a long weekend full of acro fun and community building?

Are you ready to expand your acro along with other like-minded people?

Join us for 4 days & 3 nights in an intermediate acro retreat in the stunning Karangasem Regency of Bali, Indonesia!

Retreat flow

During our retreat, we will have you learn a creative sequence built up of interesting, playful entrances and exits as well as funky seamless transitions. We will have things to challenge you as well as help you refine your already existing skills. During our classes, we will provide you with plenty of personalized tips to fit your unique body and abilities.

You are welcome to join the retreat with OR without an acro partner! In our classes we always work in groups of threes: a base, a flyer and a spotter, and we keep switching roles (of course, if you’re a flyer and don’t ever want to base — or vice versa — that’s fine!).

The retreat will include playful community building activities to help us create meaningful connections and lasting memories together. All activities are completely optional and you can feel free to skip any activity that you don’t wish to or can’t attend for any reason.

Our acro classes are mainly focused on creative L-basing flows. The requirement to join is to be already super confident in the following skills: Star, Sidestar, Cartwheels in and out of Straddle Bat and Hand Bird (when we say super confident we mean: you don’t need anyone else to tell you what to do, you can feel exactly what’s going wrong in the above moves and know exactly what to ask of your partner). If you ARE, you’re welcome to join! If you aren’t, we recommend our beginner retreat instead.

Please make sure you’re really honest with yourself on this, because you can get much more out of a retreat that actually suits your level rather than one that’s beyond or below your level.

You can find the info for our beginner retreat here.

This Retreat is for You if…

● You’ve mastered basic acro moves like sidestars, star, and cartwheels in and out of straddle bat, and you’re itching to elevate your skills

● You’ve experienced those “Aha!” moments in acro, but you’re seeking more of those enlightening breakthroughs

● You feel coordinated in your practice, but you don’t think your moves look and feel particularly smooth, graceful or elegant

● You’re eager to challenge your mental and physical limits, pushing boundaries and exploring the edges of your acro potential

● You’re passionate about deepening your connections with fellow acro enthusiasts and cherish the global community’s vibrant spirit

This Retreat Might Not Be for You If...

● You’re still finding your balance in foundational acro poses or have hesitations about basic transitions and flows.

● You are able to perform the prerequisites with an experienced partner, but you have to be told what to do, and can’t explain these moves to a partner who had never done them before

If this describes you, don’t worry!

Our foundational retreat is probably a better fit for you. It’s essential to select a retreat that aligns with your current skill set to ensure maximum growth and enjoyment.

In the retreat venue, all guests will stay in cozy wooden bungalows with an en-suite bathroom equipped with a bathtub, a living room with a desk and chair, a kitchen, and each with its very own private mini plunge pool.

There are 2 bungalow types: the first is a 2-person bungalow called Duo, which can be occupied by one or two guests, both sharing the same main bedroom, either on twin beds or one double bed.

The second type is a 3-person bungalow, called Trinity. It is exactly the same as the Duo, except this one has a sofa bed in the living room area which can convert into another double bed. Trinity can be occupied by 2 to 3 guests. If it’s 2 guests, they can either both stay in the main bedroom on a double bed or twin beds, OR one guest in the main bedroom and one in the living room, each on their own double bed. If there are 3 guests, then two of them will share the main bedroom, while the 3rd will sleep in the living room on the sofa bed, or vice versa. The pricing is the same whether you’ll get the main bedroom or the living room, as both sleeping areas have their pros and cons. Please reach out to us to see what’s available!

Farm-To-Table. Most of the vegetables and fruits comes straight from the organic farmers of Bedugul, and the venue’s own herbal garden for spices and medicinal herbs. The cookware and cooking methods are well thought through. NO aluminium, Teflon, microwaves, palm oil/vegetable oils, MSG, GMO, processed foods, or tap water are used in cooking. During the retreat, all meals will be dairy- and meat-free, offering vegetarian, vegan and pescetarian options. Please let us know in advance about any allergies or special dietary requirements (like gluten-free etc.)

Meet Your Hosts

Hi all! We are Double Up, also known as Flo and Lloydie, and we are an Acroyoga teacher duo!

We fell in love with acro in London 4+ years ago through developing a consistent practice together. Just a couple months into our acro journey we already knew we wanted to teach it together one day. Two years later, to pursue our dream we left everything behind, including Lloydie quitting his 18-year-long career at the London Fire Brigade. We came to Bali, where we now teach multiple weekly acro classes for various levels, as well as workshops at retreats and teacher trainings. We are both qualified yoga teachers, as well as Lloydie having completed a specialized 200hr Acroyoga teacher training, too.

In our classes we like to pay attention to technique down to the smallest details, all the while never forgetting to have fun in the process! We believe in meeting everyone at their skill level and helping them grow in their practice in a slow-paced, organic, progressive way.

If we haven’t already, let’s connect on Instagram at @doubleup_acro.

GUEST TEACHER – Astri Nilantari

Thai Massage Workshop

”I love sharing and teaching through Thai Massage, Yoga or Acroyoga, hopefully, I can help others to expand their dreams and be the best version of themselves, through the art of touch, connection, trust and communication”

Here’s What Our Students Say

I’ve travelled to far away lands and done many things to heal. One thing I often forgot to do was play. I didn’t do all this healing to be able to handle the pain, I was already good at that. I did the healing so I could handle the joy. So joining Flo & Lloydie for their first acro retreat was embracing that joy, the fun, the play, and all the juicy pleasure that life has to offer.

So a big thank you to Lloydie and Flo for putting this together. Another big thank you to all the wonderful humans that made the experience even that much more sweet. It was truly an unforgettable and magical weekend with you all.

Flo & Lloydie (Floydie) are hands down the best acro teachers you’ll find. They break down complex acro flows in a way that is easy to digest and replicate. Whilst fostering a safe environment to practice and test out our abilities. Love it and love them. From their favourite base student, Maxim.

I loved the 4 days acro retreat with Lloydie and Flo a lot. Learning from them is always fun, interesting and gives amazing opportunities to grow in my acro journey. Would do this time and time again with these two 🤍

Been on acro journey with Flo & Lloydie for a while now! Started with them in the beginners classes about 6 months ago, and now I got to participate in their first retreat! Really enjoyed my time there and feel like I’ve learned a lot within those 4 days! They are amazing teachers, caring individuals and I love everything about them. First retreat was amazing, looking forwards to the next ones!

I absolutely love Flo and Loydie’s acro classes. I started my acro journey with them and have been going to their classes for 4 months now so they have been with me over my transition from a complete beginner to an intermediate. Their energy is amazing, they break down all moves to the smallest detail and they are really good at building up to tough moves.
I’ve also had the pleasure of joining their retreat which was one of the best I’ve ever been to probably because it all felt so cozy and intimate. Good energy attracts good energy and the group we’ve met at the retreat was incredible. Overall I would 100% recommend them to acro yogis of all levels, I’m sure you’ll do the same if you ever join any of their classes. Keep up the amazing work Floydie! 🥰

Thank you for the incredible experience, being such patient & encouraging teachers. I feel more confident in my body as a whole after just 1 class (my first ever acro class too). Book here! You won’t regret it! Thank you again!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a partner to join?

Nope! In all our classes, workshops and retreats we have our
student working in groups of threes. Even if you come with a
partner, you’ll have an extra person working in your team.

What’s the weather like in Bali in April?

In April, Bali experiences warm and tropical weather with average temperatures ranging from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius (77 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit). It marks the transition from the rainy season to the dry season, resulting in generally sunny days and lower humidity. While occasional brief showers may still occur, don’t worry — the rain won’t affect the activities we will be doing, most of which are indoors.

How do you ensure safety?

We do everything in our power to make our acro classes as safe as possible. This is why we work in groups of threes: a base, a flyer and a spotter. As well as teaching you the techniques of basing and flying, we also teach you how to spot each pose and transition.

The floor of the yoga shala will also be covered in padded puzzle mats for the duration of the retreat.

That being said, all the above precautions still can’t 100% guarantee safety, just like in any physical exercise. The spotter may not be able to catch the flyer 100% of the time, as the spotter is positioned in a way to prevent the biggest risks in a certain move — it’s impossible for them to prevent each and every little risk.

It is also your responsibility to say “no” or “I’d like a different spotter/partner” when you’re not confident in your spotter or partner. It’s your responsibility to stop training when you’re feeling tired or delicate.

We do not take responsibility for accidents that may occur, but we will provide all the help and aid that we possibly can.

I don’t have any acro experience, but I’m very athletic and I know I’ll be able to learn quickly. Can I join?

We have prerequisites to join this retreat (see them here), and if you’re not already solid in these you cannot join this retreat.
Even though people with an athletic background usually pick up acro easier than some others, you still need to start from the basics to learn the proper techniques. On our retreat we need our guests to already be of a certain level of experience so that we don’t hold others back by having to break down basic moves to others in their team.

The good news is that we have a foundational retreat in April, too — click here to find out more!

What should I bring? Are all props provided?

The retreat being in the hills of Bali, the temperatures can drop during rainy hours and nighttime — it’s nothing extreme, but we recommend bringing a couple of warm sweaters or hoodies, socks, and long pants apart from your usual tropical weather activewear. We will be training a lot, so make sure you bring comfy clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. The retreat venue provides umbrellas, but you might want to bring your own raincoat, since you’ll almost certainly need it, even if not during the retreat, in Bali in general.

As for props for our non-acro, “normal yoga” classes, all props (mats, blocks, bolsters) are provided.

If you’re a base who uses a pillow under your lower back for acro, you’ll have to bring your own.

What types of Acro will be taught?

We teach creative, progressive L-basing flows primarily. Our focus is on good technique, smooth movement, unique and interesting skills, and funky, seamless transitions. We like to include whips, pops, spinny moves, inversions, hand-basing, and sometimes a counterbalance or two into our intermediate sequences. Our flows are progressive, meaning we will provide different versions of it depending on your skill level.

We won’t be doing standing acro.
