 DISCOVER ACRO IV

Foundational Acroyoga Retreat in Bali

April 25th-May 1st 2025

What to Expect

Are you ready for a week full of acro fun and community building?

Are you ready to discover your acro and take a deep dive into this beautiful movement art?

Join us for 7 days/6 nights on a foundational acro retreat in stunning Bali, Indonesia!

Retreat flow

Our acro classes are mainly focused on creative L-basing flows. What does this mean? People do acro in two main ways: “standing” and “L-basing”, both of which refer to the base’s position: in standing acro the base is standing up, while in L-basing the base is lying down on the ground with their legs up – their body forming the shape of an “L” (In acro, the “base” is the person who is lifting the other person up, and the “flyer” is the person being lifted off the ground). And when we say creative flows we mean that we will have you learn an acro sequence built up of interesting, playful entrances and exits as well as funky transitions – and we will also provide you the tools to get creative in your own acro practice even after you leave the retreat.

I’m a beginner at acro.

Is this retreat for me?

We will take you through the most important foundations of Acroyoga step by step, and whether you’ve never done acro before or you already have some experience, we will have something to challenge you as well as help you refine your already existing skills if you have any. During our classes, we will provide you with plenty of personalized tips to fit your unique body and abilities.

You are welcome to join the retreat with OR without an acro partner! In our classes we always work in groups of threes: a base, a flyer and a spotter, and we keep switching roles (of course, if you’re a flyer and don’t ever want to base — or vice versa — that’s fine!). The retreat will also include playful community building activities to help us create meaningful connections and lasting memories together. All activities are completely optional and you can feel free to skip any activity that you don’t wish to or can’t attend for any reason.

If all the things mentioned above sound like something you’d enjoy, keep reading for more details!

This Retreat is for You if…

● You’ve never done acro before and would love to kickstart your journey.

● You’ve already done some acro, but you’d like to learn more and get better, smoother, more technical and more efficient in the moves you already know

● You’re trying to become a part of this whole acro world, but it all just looks too intimidating & you don’t know where to start

● Somebody showed you some acro before but you didn’t really understand how you did what you did (very common!)

● You’d like to challenge yourself mentally and physically while also meeting like-minded people (not to brag but… the acro communities around the world have the coolest people!)

● You’re patient and empathetic towards others and have a playful personality.

This Retreat Might Not Be for You If...

● You’re already super confident in basic acro “washing machines” and skills such as sidestars, star, cartwheels, basic pops and/or beyond (when we say super confident we mean: you don’t need anyone else to tell you what to do, you can feel exactly what’s going wrong in the above moves and know exactly what to ask of your partner).

If you ARE, we recommend our intermediate retreat instead
– just make sure you’re really honest with yourself on this, because you can get much more out of a retreat that actually suits your level rather than one that’s beyond or below your level.

Why should I join?

Joining our foundational Acroyoga retreat is a chance to take a deep dive into this beautiful and unique partner movement art. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about the very foundations of Acroyoga, including the physical skills and techniques, as well as the mental and emotional characteristics that make a skilled acro practitioner. As opposed to being mixed in with a crowd with a wide range of experience levels (which from our experience can sometimes create feelings of intimidation or alienation), you’ll be training alongside other enthusiasts of a similar experience level as you. This creates a warm, supportive and inclusive space where you can feel safe and cared for.

You will get to stay in a beautiful resort in Sukawati, Gianyar regency, right next to lush green rice terraces, which will serve as our backdrop. Away from the city’s hustle and bustle, it offers a quiet space to reflect, rejuvenate and play.

Retreat Venue

ACCOMMODATION

Located conveniently in Sukawati in Gianyar Regency of Bali, no more than 30 minutes from Ubud and Sanur, our venue is a peaceful haven and the perfect destination for a focused and safe acro retreat.

The villa is at the end of a side road, right next to vibrant green rice terraces, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the island’s busy roads. There are no two rooms here that are the same: each is different with its very own unique theme, for example: Pop art, Industrial or Renessaince. All rooms are equipped with an en-suite bathroom, AC, WiFi, mini fridge and smart TV. Every room is shared between two people, with the options of two twin beds or one extra-king-sized bed.

The acro classes, jams, welcoming and closing circles, the movie night and evening games will be held in the spacious function hall, which is a covered space suitable for all weathers, with a high enough ceiling for throwing dynamic skills. The floor in the hall will be covered with puzzle mats to ensure safe practice.

There is also a heated pool on site which guests can enjoy during their free time! And for an extra charge, guests will be able to take advantage of a mini sauna and ice bath, too.

FOOD

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided buffet-style. The meals include a great mix of wholesome traditional Indonesian, Asian and Western dishes prepared from fresh ingredients. All meals will offer meat/fish, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Please let us know in advance about any allergies or any dietary intolerances (like gluten-free etc.)

Meet Your Hosts

Hi all! We are Double Up, also known as Flo and Lloydie, and we are an Acroyoga teacher duo!

We fell in love with acro in London 5+ years ago through developing a consistent practice together. Just a couple months into our acro journey we already knew we wanted to teach it together one day. Two years later, to pursue our dream we left everything behind, including Lloydie quitting his 18-year-long career at the London Fire Brigade. We came to Bali, where we now teach multiple weekly acro classes for various levels, as well as workshops at retreats and teacher trainings. We are both qualified yoga teachers, as well as Lloydie having completed a specialized 200hr Acroyoga teacher training, too.

In our classes we like to pay attention to technique down to the smallest details, all the while never forgetting to have fun in the process. We believe in meeting everyone at their skill level and helping them grow in their practice in a slow-paced, organic, progressive way.

If we haven’t already, let’s connect on Instagram at @doubleup_acro.

Here’s What Our Guests/Students Say

I’ve travelled to far away lands and done many things to heal. One thing I often forgot to do was play. I didn’t do all this healing to be able to handle the pain, I was already good at that. I did the healing so I could handle the joy. So joining Flo & Lloydie for their first acro retreat was embracing that joy, the fun, the play, and all the juicy pleasure that life has to offer.

So a big thank you to Lloydie and Flo for putting this together. Another big thank you to all the wonderful humans that made the experience even that much more sweet. It was truly an unforgettable and magical weekend with you all.
Sunshine

Flo & Lloydie (Floydie) are hands down the best acro teachers you’ll find. They break down complex acro flows in a way that is easy to digest and replicate. Whilst fostering a safe environment to practice and test out our abilities. Love it and love them. From their favourite base student, Maxim.
Maxim

I loved the 4 days acro retreat with Lloydie and Flo a lot. Learning from them is always fun, interesting and gives amazing opportunities to grow in my acro journey. Would do this time and time again with these two 🤍

Sina

Been on acro journey with Flo & Lloydie for a while now! Started with them in the beginners classes about 6 months ago, and now I got to participate in their first retreat! Really enjoyed my time there and feel like I’ve learned a lot within those 4 days! They are amazing teachers, caring individuals and I love everything about them. First retreat was amazing, looking forwards to the next ones!

Tomas

I absolutely love Flo and Loydie’s acro classes. I started my acro journey with them and have been going to their classes for 4 months now so they have been with me over my transition from a complete beginner to an intermediate. Their energy is amazing, they break down all moves to the smallest detail and they are really good at building up to tough moves.
I’ve also had the pleasure of joining their retreat which was one of the best I’ve ever been to probably because it all felt so cozy and intimate. Good energy attracts good energy and the group we’ve met at the retreat was incredible. Overall I would 100% recommend them to acro yogis of all levels, I’m sure you’ll do the same if you ever join any of their classes. Keep up the amazing work Floydie! 🥰
Alex

Thank you for the incredible experience, being such patient & encouraging teachers. I feel more confident in my body as a whole after just 1 class (my first ever acro class too). Book here! You won’t regret it! Thank you again!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a partner to join?

Nope! In all our classes, workshops and retreats we have our
student working in groups of threes. Even if you come with a
partner, you’ll have an extra person working in your team.

Is Acroyoga safe?

We do everything in our power to make our acro classes as safe as possible. This is why we work in groups of three people: while one person is basing and the other flying, the third person will be spotting. The job of the spotter is to be ready and catch the flyer, or soften their landing, should they fall. We will teach you all how to spot each pose and transition. The floor of the yoga shala will be covered in padded puzzle mats for the duration of the retreat. And we won’t be doing many dangerous moves at a beginner retreat.

That being said, all the above precautions still can’t 100% guarantee safety, just like in any physical exercise. The spotter may not be able to catch the flyer 100% of the time, as the spotter is positioned in a way to prevent the biggest risks in a certain move — it’s impossible for them to prevent each and every little risk.

It is also your responsibility to say “no” or “I’d like a different spotter/partner” when you’re not confident in your spotter or partner. It’s your responsibility to stop training when you’re feeling tired or delicate.

We do not take responsibility for accidents that may occur, but we will provide all the help and aid that we possibly can.

I don’t have any acro experience. Can I join?

Absolutely! This is a foundational retreat. You don’t need any experience whatsoever.

Do I need any kind of sports background? Where do I need to be strong/flexible?
  • For both bases and flyers, having a basic level of mobility, flexibility and strength definitely helps, but you don’t have to have any extremely athletic. It’s great if you already have a movement background.
  • For bases especially, a level of hamstring flexibility can be crucial. It doesn’t have to be anything extreme, but if you are able to lie on your back and have your legs lifted in a 90 degree angle (feet directly above the hips) with no or just a small bend in the knees and without exerting too much effort then you’re good to go. You have the option to place a small pillow under your bum and see how much you can straighten the legs then.
We’ve had many bases in our regular classes who started with us with extremely tight hamstrings and over the weeks and months they managed to open them tremendously by just doing acro. However, a retreat is too short to see huge improvements in flexibility. So if you have extremely tight hamstrings to begin with, you might not enjoy doing so many hours of acro in such a short window of time.
  • For flyers especially it helps if you’re not afraid of being upside down, and if you can hold a strong plank (without hips sagging down or pushed up) for a minimum of 20 seconds.
I’ve never done acro before. How can I be sure if I’ll like it?

This is a great question. Look, our main objective is to make sure our guests leave the retreat extremely happy, satisfied and fulfilled. Although you or we can never be sure in advance how you will really feel about acro, from our experience having taught thousands of students we’ve collected a few pointers to help you make a decision.

If you’ve ever seen people do acro and thought “DAMN, that looks like pure magic! I’d do anything to be able to do that!”, then you’ll probably LOVE acro!

Ask yourself this though: “do I just love the idea of being able to do all this cool stuff or am I ready to put in all the time, effort and energy?” If you are, then acro is probably for you!

What’s the weather like in Bali in April/May?

In Sukawati Regency in Bali, April and May mark the transition from the wet to the dry season. In April, temperatures range from 24°C to 29°C, with an average of 11 rainy days and approximately 188 mm of rainfall. By May, rainfall decreases significantly, averaging around 74 mm, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities.

What’s the weather like in Bali in November/December?

The end of November/beginning of December is the start of the rainy season. Usually mornings are sunny and hot (around 30 C), and it may rain in the afternoons. During rainy hours the temperature can drop a little (around 24 C). But don’t worry, the rain won’t affect the activities we will be doing, most of which are indoors. If any outdoor activities get cancelled due to the rain, they will be replaced by more acro workshops or other indoor activities.

What should I bring? Are all props provided?

We recommend bringing a few pieces of warm clothing for nighttime hang-outs, apart from your usual tropical weather activewear. We will be training a lot, so make sure you bring comfy clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Even if you may not use it during the retreat itself, you might want to bring a raincoat which comes very handy in rainy-season-Bali in general.

As for props for our non-acro, “normal yoga” classes, all props (mats, blocks, bolsters) are provided.

If you’re a base who uses a pillow under your lower back for acro, we will have some samples on-site, as well as a few for sale.

What types of Acro will be taught?

We teach creative, progressive L-basing flows primarily. Our focus is on good technique, smooth movement, unique and interesting skills, and funky, seamless transitions. We like to include whips, pops, spinny moves, inversions, hand-basing, and sometimes a counterbalance or two into our intermediate sequences. Our flows are progressive, meaning we will provide different versions of it depending on your skill level.

We won’t be doing standing acro.
